Tom Stover is the founder and co-manager of Stover & Spitz LLC in Longmont, Colorado.
His practice emphasizes wills, trusts, estate planning, probate, taxation, real estate and business law. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law, Order of the Coif, in May 1985. Tom is a Fellow and former Colorado State Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for over 10 years. Tom was named the Best Lawyers® 2014 Denver Area Trusts and Estates "Lawyer of the Year." He has been selected by his legal peers to be included in Colorado Super Lawyers®. Tom is a Boulder County native and has lived and practiced in Longmont for over 25 years. He is active in a variety of community activities, including the Twin Peaks Rotary Club, of which he is a 25 year member.
Tom enjoys mountain climbing and has climbed all of Colorado's 54 peaks over 14,000 feet, culminating with the Summit of South Maroon Peak on August 9, 1997. Tom is also an avid cyclist and has participated in many rides including the Tour of the Tucson Mountains, Ride the Rockies, The Courage Classic, The Triple Bypass and The Copper Triangle.
Tom frequently lectures throughout the state to various groups, including: Colorado Continuing Legal Education (CLE in Colorado, Inc.), Professional Educational Systems, Inc. (PESI), the Colorado Bar Association, the Boulder County Bar Association and other local bar associations and the Boulder County and various other Estate Planning Councils. He speaks on a variety of estate planning topics, including planning after the 2001 Tax Act, the generation-skipping transfer tax, estate administration, estate distribution and funding of trusts, and fiduciary tax planning. Tom is active in the Trust and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, serving as its Chair in 2001-2002. He has also served as Vice-Chair of the Section (2000-2001), Co-Chair and Chair of the Statutory Revisions Committee (1993-1995), Legislative Liaison (1995-1996), and Council Member (1996-1998). He also chairs the GST Subcommittee for the Colorado Estate Planning Forms Committee and the Domestic Asset Protection Subcommittee. He was on the Board of the Boulder County Estate Planning Council for five years and served as its President in 2003.
